Research & Technical Expertise
With P & M Technologies, Dr. Mohammed provided project development and management services. Her areas
of specialty include:
- Critical analysis of emerging opportunities in non-timber forest products
- Applications of plant physiology
- Development of remote sensing platforms (including spaceborne) for fluorescence and spectral analysis
Gina focused on novel and innovative opportunities for commercial spin-offs and improved natural-resource stewardship.
Gina has headed committees, chaired several important workshops & forums, led conferences & seminars, and delivered keynote addresses.

Education and Experience
Gina graduated with a Ph.D. in plant physiology from Simon Fraser University (1990), and holds a
B.Sc. in biology from the University of Toronto (1981). She has
been a research scientist for over 40 years, with experience in the private and public sectors – specifically,
Kelowna Nurseries and AgriForest Technologies in British Columbia,
and the Ontario Forest Research Institute (Ministry of Natural Resources) in Ontario. She has
also served as adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo and on various peer review and
post-graduate committees. Gina is a past member (and Past Chair) of the Board of Governors for
Sault College in Ontario.
Scientific Committees
Dr. Mohammed was a member of the Science Committee for the
5th International Workshop on Remote Sensing of Vegetation Fluorescence (April 2014) in Paris, France,
and she chaired its session on the relationship between fluorescence and photosynthesis.
She was also on the Science Committee for ESA's conference on
Remote Sensing of Fluorescence, Photosynthesis, and Vegetation Status (January 2017) held in Frascati, Italy.
Publication Record
Gina Mohammed has over 200 publications, including
textbook chapters,
journal papers, and
technical reports, plus
magazine articles and
books for general audiences.
She has appeared in the press, on film, and on radio & television. Her latest major work is
"The Canadian NTFP Business Companion",
a comprehensive guide book of NTFP business ideas & resources on CD/DVD.
And, as a pioneer in the development & uses of chlorophyll fluorescence technology, Gina was lead author on the 2019
paper reviewing 50 years of developments in solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) in vegetation.
